Yesterday, a bipartisan and bicameral coalition introduced the Internet of Things (IoT) Cybersecurity Improvement Act of 2019 (H.R. 1168). The legislation would establish baseline security requirements for IoT devices purchased by the federal government.
In the House, this effort is being spearheaded by Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02) and Congressman Will Hurd (TX-23), the former chairman and ranking member of the IT subcommittee during the 115th Congress.
"Mommas are dying across this country. Every year, we lose more mommas to maternal mortality and it's a sad fact that it's more dangerous to have a baby today than it was 25 years ago," began Congresswoman Robin Kelly.
Congresswoman Kelly, chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust and member of the health subcommittee, and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee spoke surrounded by medical doctors and health advocates outside the U.S. Capitol.
Congresswoman Robin Kelly released this statement following the release of data from the U.S. Department of Commerce showing the U.S. trade deficit had reached a 10-year high, largely because of President Trump's failed trade war:
"Despite his repeated claims to address the U.S. trade deficit, President Trump exploded it.
Congresswoman Robin Kelly personally delivered 150 books Friday to Sandridge Elementary School in Lynwood, as part of the Library of Congress' Surplus Book Program.
"These donations not only help our schools and public libraries expand their collections, it's an opportunity for me to visit with students and answer their questions about government and issues that are of real concern to them," Congresswoman Kelly said.
Olympia Fields, IL – Yesterday, Congresswoman Robin Kelly filed legislation to rename the Olympia Fields post office for Captain (USA, ret.) Robert L. Martin.
Captain Martin was a member of the famous World War II Tuskegee Airmen. He served as a combat pilot in the 100th Fighter Squadron of the 332nd Fighter Group. On his 64th mission, he was shot down over German-occupied territory and evaded capture for five weeks as he made his way safely across Allied lines. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1945.
Today, Congresswoman Robin Kelly voted in favor of the Bipartisan Background Checks Act (H.R. 8). This bipartisan legislation would ensure that a background check is conducted on every gun sale, thus closing loopholes that allow a significant number of guns to be sold without a background check, especially via the Internet and at gun shows.
[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Representative Robin Kelly (D-IL-02) are requesting the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) take immediate action to stop a company on the Southeast Side of Chicago from releasing unsafe levels of a known neurotoxin into the air in violation of the Clean Air Act.
Washington, DC - Congresswoman Robin Kelly released this statement on President Trump's plan to issue an unconstitutional "Emergency Declaration:"
"The experts are clear, there is NO crisis at the Southern Border. The only emergencies are the manufactured crises of President Donald Trump. He shut down the government for weeks; he made 800,000 federal workers and their families go without paychecks; and he has repeatedly used border rhetoric to demonize people of color.
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Robin Kelly, vice chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, released this statement following the passage of Bipartisan Background Check Act(H.R. 8) and H.R. 1112, which would close the Charleston Loophole, by the House Judiciary Committee:
Congresswoman Robin Kelly, vice chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, introduced three bills to bring commonsense to federal gun policy.
Her first bill, the Recognizing Gun Violence as a Public Health Emergency Act (HR 1114), would require the U.S. Surgeon General to provide an annual report to Congress on the public health impacts and cost of gun violence in America – an epidemic that claims nearly 40,000 American lives each and every year.
