In today’s global economy, maintaining strong relationships with foreign nations is essential to our national economy and security. Our foreign policy must work to increase trade, promote economic growth, and advance democratic principles while protecting the health, safety, labor, and environmental rights of all nations.

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Robin Kelly wrote to Governor Bruce Rauner requesting information about the state’s efforts to secure the upcoming 2018 election after Illinois’ system were hacked in 2016.
She writes, “Ensuring the security of Illinois’ elections and voter data is not solely the responsibility of the state government. It requires a whole of government approach, including in-depth cooperation at the local, state and federal levels.”
For more than a year, Americans, Congress and the world have discussed Russia’s attempts to influence our elections. However, some of their most dangerous and well-documented attacks against state-level voting systems have been a mere footnote.
That needs to change, and change fast. Let’s start with the facts and when we learned them.
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Brad Schneider (IL-10) was joined by Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security Bennie Thompson (MS-02), and Reps. Robin Kelly (IL-02), Lou Correa (CA-46), Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) to introduce legislation aimed at preventing acts of domestic terrorism by white supremacists and other extremist groups. This is a companion bill to legislation first introduced in the Senate by Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL).

As government, private industry and American families have adopted technology into nearly every aspect of our lives, the need for cybersecurity has grown exponentially. Unfortunately, our response to this threat has been piecemeal at best.
In order to combat this real and growing threat, we need a three-pronged approach that involves everyone from Washington D.C., to Chicago to Silicon Valley and everywhere in between.
