In today’s global economy, maintaining strong relationships with foreign nations is essential to our national economy and security. Our foreign policy must work to increase trade, promote economic growth, and advance democratic principles while protecting the health, safety, labor, and environmental rights of all nations.
I am proud to serve on the House Committee on Oversight and Reform and its National Security Subcommittee. Through this committee, I will work with my colleagues to advance the interests of the United States.
Protecting the hard-working men and women who serve on the front lines of America’s foreign policy and defense efforts is a responsibility I take seriously. America’s global standing and security directly affect every one of us. I’m committed to ensuring that our military and diplomatic servants have the best resources available to enhance America’s relationships with our international partners in order to successfully defend our nation’s core values, and promote the rights of people across the world.

Yesterday, a bipartisan and bicameral coalition introduced the Internet of Things (IoT) Cybersecurity Improvement Act of 2019 (H.R. 1168). The legislation would establish baseline security requirements for IoT devices purchased by the federal government.
In the House, this effort is being spearheaded by Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02) and Congressman Will Hurd (TX-23), the former chairman and ranking member of the IT subcommittee during the 115th Congress.

Congresswoman Kelly’s appointment came after receiving a waiver from Speaker Pelosi, as Kelly also sits on the exclusive Energy and Commerce committee.

The record-setting partial government shutdown that enters its 24th day today is having a damaging effect on the nation's cybersecurity, both now and in the future.
Many agencies’ cybersecurity teams are down to skeleton staffs. Critical services related to cybersecurity are not being provided to the public. In addition, experts say, the shutdown is encouraging the most talented employees to leave for jobs in the private sector and will make it difficult to recruit in the future.

The Department of Justice (DoJ) today announced that a grand jury has indicted seven officers, all Russian nationals and residents, in the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU), a military intelligence agency of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
At a time when everyone should be working to protect the integrity of our electoral system, Illinois may be an unwitting partner in throwing valid voters off the rolls.
On Tuesday, Gov. Bruce Rauner vetoed a bill that would have pulled Illinois out of an inaccurate multistate voter registration crosscheck system. At a time when Illinois should be beefing up voting security, this takes us in the wrong direction.
