Congresswoman Robin Kelly announced today that a total of $14.2 million in federal grants were awarded in 2014 to municipalities, public safety departments, health and housing agencies and schools within the 2nd Congressional District.

A total of 53 grants were awarded and provided funding for a variety of community needs, including purchasing critical equipment and training for local firefighters, expanding health and housing services, making street improvements and supporting physical education and arts programs.

Congresswoman Robin Kelly hosted U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman Wednesday at a roundtable with more than a dozen business leaders in the 2nd District to discuss international trade issues.

The roundtable, which took place at the Hazel Crest headquarters of Mi-Jack Products, focused on U.S. trade agreements and helping Illinois businesses compete in the international marketplace. Representatives with Nucor Steel, Best Diamond Plastics, Whiting Corporation, Gelita, Solvay Inc., Avatar Corporation and Landauer were also present at the roundtable.

U.S. Congresswoman Robin Kelly (D-IL) today urged Congress to honor the memories of the victims of the Newtown school shootings and gun violence nationwide by passing common sense gun reform.

Standing with families from Chicago at a press conference marking the second anniversary of the Newtown, CT shootings, Kelly said that no matter where you live gun violence affects us all.

Congresswoman Kelly Announces Grants for Arts Programs

Congresswoman Robin Kelly announced today that Governors State University and the South Chicago Art Center each received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

"One grant will expand arts programs for schoolchildren on Chicago's South Side. The other will bring some of the world's greatest dancers and choreographers to the south suburbs," Kelly said. "I support the arts because they bring beauty into our lives and strengthen our ties as people."

CHICAGO – Congresswoman Robin Kelly was recently elected as a Regional Deputy Whip for the upcoming 114th Congress.

Kelly will be responsible for working with House Democratic Leadership to build unity among Congressional Democrats. Her duties will include assisting with strategy, vote counting and the gathering and distribution of information from Democratic leadership to members of Congress from Region IV (which includes Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma). Kelly was elected by her colleagues.

Congresswoman Robin Kelly will host a Hiring Event for residents of the 2nd Congressional District on Friday, October 24, from 9 to noon, in the gymnasium of South Suburban College, 15800 State St., South Holland. Last year, more than 60 employers with active job openings met more than 1400 job seekers.

It is official, the Canadian National (CN) Railway opened its new job training Center in Homewood, Illinois. The job training facility is the first of its kind for Canadian National (CN) in the United States, and will be used to provide railroad training for all new employees, union and management, reported the SouthtownStar in today's edition.
