A new bill introduced in the United States House of Representatives is aimed at reducing infant and maternal mortality rates.

Representative Robin Kelly introduced legislation to the U.S. House of Representatives that would give women who are on Medicaid longer periods of coverage to battle outrageously high rates of maternal and infant mortality in the country.

A House bill introduced Wednesday would expand the amount of time that new moms could remain on Medicaid, in an effort to reduce the number of pregnancy or childbirth-related deaths.

"Too many mothers have died already," said Rep. Robin Kelly, D-Ill., who introduced the legislation. "Too many kids are growing up without a mother. Too many families are living a nightmare that doesn't end."

CHICAGO – A group of young activists in Chicago met and rallied today calling for better lives and safer streets in the city.

Young activists and their adult mentors conferring about Chicago's South and West Sides.

Congresswoman Robin Kelly called the meeting, saying these young leaders must demand anti-violence resources.

"We cannot continue like this. We're losing a generation of young people," Kelly said.

Mayor Emanuel and Police Superintendent Johnson have been touting progress reducing shootings on the South and West sides.

It was just a couple of weeks ago, U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly said, that a man approached her inside a store where she was shopping and thanked her for helping his son find a job.

The man's son had attended the congresswoman's Youth Job and Resource Expo held a year ago in Harvey, and had been able to find work through the event, Kelly said Tuesday.

Her office is again hosting the Job and Resource Expo from 9 a.m. to noon April 21 at Thornton Township High School, 15001 Broadway Ave., Harvey.

In an area where corn and soybean fields were once planted, a massive Amazon Fulfillment Center situated on 84 acres along West Monee Manhattan Road is now king of the landscape.

The 856,000-square-foot building — the fourth fulfillment center in Will County — was opened to the media Thursday morning as a workforce of more than 2,000 people and robotic automation sorts and send packages on their way to customers not only in Illinois and the Midwest, but across the country as well.
