US Rep. Robin Kelly condemns Supreme Court decision to overturn bump stock ban
WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today, Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02) condemned the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision to overturn the federal ban on bump stocks.
“The Supreme Court’s decision today is absurd. To allow bump stocks back onto the market will cause carnage on our streets,” said Congresswoman Kelly. “We witnessed the devastating effects of bump stocks when a gunman fired upon crowds at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas. In just 11 minutes, he killed 60 people and injured 400 more as people fled for their lives. The Court does not operate in a bubble. The six justices who decided to overturn a sensible bump stock ban just cost Americans their lives.”
Bump stocks were banned in 2018 after a gunman in Las Vegas killed 60 people and injured 400 more in a mere 11 minutes in the deadliest mass shooting in the US. He was armed with multiple guns modified with bump stocks, a feature that allows a semi-automatic weapon to fire rapidly at the same rate of a machine gun. The National Rifle Association supported the bump stock ban.
