Reps. Kelly, Lee, DeGette Lead Letter Asking Biden Administration to Establish Office of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Wellbeing

March 18, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswomen Robin Kelly (IL-02), Barbara Lee (CA-13) and Diana DeGette (CO-01) today led 35 of their House colleagues in a letter to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, asking the administration to establish a White House Office of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Wellbeing (OSRHW) under the Domestic Policy Council.

"Establishing the OSRHW would move toward creating permanent infrastructure to support people in making safe, responsible, and empowered reproductive health decisions," wrote the Members. "This office would realize a holistic policy framework to ensure all people have access to both health care and the resources necessary to make safe reproductive and sexual health decisions."

"We are encouraged by the Biden administration's commitment to advancing and securing reproductive rights for all women, and we hope they will continue building on this early commitment by enacting policies that support the health and wellbeing of all people."

The Mission of the OSRHW would be to:

  1. Develop a federal strategy for promoting equitable sexual and reproductive wellbeing through the lens of human rights, gender, and racial equity, and;
  2. Better coordinate the actions of the many federal departments and agencies whose missions impact the sexual and reproductive health and wellbeing, and the financial welfare of people across the country.
