Rep. Robin Kelly Votes to Avert Rail Strike
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Robin L. Kelly (IL-02) voted to adopt the Tentative Agreement that was reached in September between railroads and the unions. This agreement was the result of tireless efforts by President Biden, Secretary Walsh and labor leaders. The agreement includes a 24 percent pay increase for workers as well as preserves health coverage and the two-man crew requirement. Representative Kelly will continue to work diligently to ensure that workers gain additional benefits and protections. Representative Kelly also voted in favor of seven paid sick days in addition to the Tentative Agreement, a key priority for workers that Congresswoman Kelly and Democrats will continue to push for. America’s railroads are essential to the economy of the Illinois Second District. Every Class I rail line runs through the district and provides vital support for thousands of jobs. This agreement is critical to the livelihoods of so many in Illinois. “Rail workers are the backbone of our economy. I am proud to support an agreement that preserves and expands so many critical rights for rail workers across the country,” said Representative Robin L. Kelly (IL-02). “While our work is far from over, this agreement is a crucial step toward delivering the rights that every worker deserves. I remain committed to continuing this process to ensure that every rail worker has the benefits they need to thrive.” |
