Rep. Robin Kelly Condemns Trump's Unconstitutional Decision to Freeze Federal Funding

WASHINGTON -- Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02) released the following statement after the Trump Administration announced it would freeze federal funding and grants across the country:

"President Trump’s unconstitutional decision to withhold essential funds from the American people is a clear step towards uncontrolled spending power. It leads to his broader agenda of cutting taxes for his billionaire friends by any means possible, while hard-working Americans have to pay the price. 

"Nutritional programs for pregnant women and infants, student financial aid and grants, after-school programs, wildfire preparedness programs, and healthcare initiatives are just some of the services that will have money stolen from them by President Trump. Expect irreparable damage: small businesses may be forced to close, and individuals who rely on federally funded medication could face life-threatening consequences.

"I am committed to fighting back against President Trump’s infringement of our Constitution, and will not let him continue to cheat the system and hurt the American people."
