Rep. Robin Kelly Commends Vice President Harris’ Historic Health Equity Investment
Vice President Harris will Invest $1.5 Billion in American Rescue Plan Funding in Improving Health Equity
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02), Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust, released the below statement following Vice President Kamala Harris’ announcement of a $1.5 billion investment in diversifying the health care workforce and improving the clinical care available in underserved communities:
“I am thrilled that Vice President Harris is devoting a historic $1.5 billion in health equity investments for underserved communities. These awards to the National Health Service Corps, Nurse Corps and Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery programs will diversify our healthcare workforce, address workforce shortages, and expand clinical services available to people living in underserved communities.
“Health equity has been at the very core of my work since coming to Congress in 2013. I have long advocated for the benefits of diversifying our healthcare workforce, especially when it comes to improving outcomes for people of color and in the Black maternal mortality crisis.
“This funding will come from the Democrats’ American Rescue Plan and strengthen our nation’s healthcare system for years to come. I commend Vice President Harris and President Biden for their work to improve our nation’s health care, and I look forward to the future investments that will be made possible by House Democrats’ transformational Build Back Better legislation.”
