Rep. Kelly Responds to President Biden’s State of the Union Address
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Robin L. Kelly (IL-02) tonight released the following response to President Biden’s State of the Union Address: “President Biden has demonstrated strong leadership throughout the hardships of the past year. Tonight, he highlighted many of those accomplishments – getting our nation vaccinated and past the COVID-19 pandemic, putting our economy back on track and preparing for the next generation, passing the American Rescue Plan and the bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and creating the strongest economic growth in years. “Tonight, President Biden demonstrated that he is committed to making our economy work for all Americans, not just those at the top. The investments being made by the Biden Administration and democrats in Congress will help middle class Illinoisans and build opportunities for rural Americans by lowering costs, expanding access to health care and creating jobs. “I heard President Biden speak to several of my top priorities – expanding healthcare access and mental healthcare, investing in maternal health, addressing health disparities, creating jobs, economic development, investing in communities and fighting gun violence. |
“Gun violence prevention is a top issue for my constituents in Illinois. Our communities have paid the very high price of gun violence, and we need swift, expansive federal action to curb the everyday violence plaguing our communities. I will continue working with my colleagues and President Biden to advance violence prevention legislation.
“In addition to the President’s accomplishments here in the United States, he also delivered strong support for the people of Ukraine and our NATO allies. The bravery and patriotism of the Ukrainian people is so inspiring. Their courage will inspire the world to protect democracy everywhere. It is clear that President Biden and my colleagues in Congress stand ready to continue providing support. I am encouraged by President Biden’s unity agenda and look forward to supporting that agenda in Congress.” ### |
