Congresswoman Kelly Responds to IG Investigation of DOL Rule that Would Cost Illinoisans $21 Million

February 6, 2018

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Robin Kelly, a member of Congress' Oversight Committee, released this statement regarding the Inspector General's investigation into the Trump Administration's Department of Labor effort to hide a report showing billions in lost earnings for American servers due to DOL rulemakings:

"Anyone who has ever worked as a waiter or waitress knows it's a difficult job and that tips make or break you.

I'm deeply alarmed by the Department of Labor's efforts to hid data showing the economic consequences of their actions. They actively worked to hide evidence that their rulemaking will cost these hardworking Americans BILLIONS. This is unacceptable.

The American people are tired of this Administration's ‘hide-and-seek' relationship with the truth.

Again, I call upon Chairman Gowdy and my Republican colleagues on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee to do their jobs. We cannot continue to stand by idly while Americans' bear the brunt of the damage caused by this Administration's bad policies."

According to estimates from the Economic Policy Institute, this rulemaking will cost hardworking Illinoisans $21 million.
