Prairie State receives huge grant

January 9, 2018

Prairie State College in Chicago Heights has been awarded a $938,447 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to create job training centers in welding and machining at various community locations throughout the South Suburbs, U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly announced Monday.

The investment will support workforce development efforts throughout the region, which will create jobs and boost manufacturing and logistic sectors locally, the announcement stated.

"This grant will help develop the manufacturing base that's steadily growing in the 2nd Congressional District," Kelly said. "My continuing goal is to bring in additional investment in economic development for our region."

EDA grants support the purchase and installation of equipment and other platforms to house mobile workforce training centers specializing in manufacturing.
