WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02) last week hosted a virtual Health Summit on Gun Violence, where she was joined by Senators Dick Durbin and Richard Blumenthal, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, former U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Chicago CRED, gun violence prevention activists and gun violence survivors.

Rep. Kelly and her colleagues heard testimony from gun violence survivors and community interventionists on the importance of stopping the near-daily gun violence seen in Chicago and in localities across the country.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last night, the Prevent Gun Trafficking Act, sponsored by Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02) passed the House 226-197, including seven Republican votes. The legislation was included as Title II of the Protecting Our Kids Act, a package of eight gun violence prevention bills.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Reps. Robin Kelly (IL-02) and Mike Thompson (CA-04), alongside 34 other legislators, have denounced Meta’s failure to adequately regulate advertisements for gun silencers on its platform. In a letter to company CEO Mark Zuckerberg, they expressed concern over misleading ads disguising gun silencers as car parts, which have been seen by tens of thousands of viewers. This is especially alarming given that silencer use has increased dramatically since 2017.

Washington, DC – This morning, Congresswoman Robin Kelly, vice chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, took to the House Floor demanding action to prevent another school shooting like yesterday's at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL.

On the House floor, she said, "on a day when school children should be thinking about baseball tryouts, prom and college selections, again they head to school living the reality that a gun may strike them down at any moment."

WASHINGTON -- A Johns Hopkins Hospital surgeon joined other doctors Thursday on Capitol Hill in recounting stories of the effects of gun violence, part of an effort to compel congressional action after a National Rifle Association assertion that doctors should "stay in their lane" on the topic.

The doctors' news conference in a House office building followed the NRA's tweet Nov. 7 on the issue.

In an ensuing uproar in the medical community, Dr. Joseph Sakran of Hopkins launched a Twitter campaign called @ThisIsOurLane.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Robin Kelly (D-IL-02), vice chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, and Congressman Cedric L. Richmond (D-LA-02), chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, introduced the Gun Violence Research Act. The legislation would:

· Amend the Dickey Amendment, which prohibits the use of funding at the Department of Health and Human Services to advocate gun control, to clarify that funds may be used to study gun violence, particularly as it relates to mental health;

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Robin Kelly (D-IL), U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) led 14 other Senators and 25 other Representatives to introduce a resolution in the House and Senate establishing the weekend of June 1-3, 2018 as "National Gun Violence Awareness Weekend" and designating June as "National Gun Violence Awareness Month." Every day in America, an average of around 300 men, women, and children are shot, nearly one-third of them fatally.
