"Mommas are dying across this country. Every year, we lose more mommas to maternal mortality and it's a sad fact that it's more dangerous to have a baby today than it was 25 years ago," began Congresswoman Robin Kelly.

Congresswoman Robin Kelly personally delivered 150 books last week to Sandridge Elementary School in Lynwood as part of the Library of Congress' Surplus Book Program.
"These donations not only help our schools and public libraries expand their collections, it's an opportunity for me to visit with students and answer their questions about government and issues that are of real concern to them," Kelly said.
Sandridge received books that included biographies, fiction, folklore, poetry and science.
A member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen who lived in Olympia Fields would have the post office in that suburb named in his honor under legislation introduced by U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly, D-Matteson.

Olympia Fields, IL – Yesterday, Congresswoman Robin Kelly filed legislation to rename the Olympia Fields post office for Captain (USA, ret.) Robert L. Martin.
Captain Martin was a member of the famous World War II Tuskegee Airmen. He served as a combat pilot in the 100th Fighter Squadron of the 332nd Fighter Group. On his 64th mission, he was shot down over German-occupied territory and evaded capture for five weeks as he made his way safely across Allied lines. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1945.

On Tuesday night, Lori Lightfoot — the top vote-getter in Chicago's mayoral primary — first thanked family, campaign staff and volunteers, then Kelly during her victory speech.

This bipartisan legislation would ensure that a background check is conducted on every gun sale, thus closing loopholes that allow a significant number of guns to be sold without a background check, especially via the Internet and at gun shows.
