Rep. Kelly Statement on the Trump Shutdown

Congresswoman Robin Kelly, co-chair of the Democratic Budget Working Group, released this statement concerning the Trump Shutdown:

"I want this Trump Shutdown to end as soon as possible. We need to re-open federal government services and get people back to work quickly.

I'm extremely disappointed that a Republican-controlled White House, Senate and House could not fund the government and ensure thousands of federal workers receive Christmas paychecks.

Congress must come together and pass comprehensive immigration reform. However, this type of comprehensive reform requires hearings, public comment and negotiations between Members. This cannot be achieved under a manufactured Trump Shutdown that never should have happened.

Building a wall is simply a Presidential vanity project that the majority of Americans and nearly all homeland security experts oppose.

I'm willing to work with anyone who is serious about ending this Trump Shutdown immediately. This is a manufactured crisis and it must end, now."
