Congressional Student App Challenge

The first annual congressional science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) academic competition, the House Student App Challenge, is officially underway. Established by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2013, this competition is a nationwide event that invites high school students from all participating congressional districts to compete by creating and exhibiting their software application, or “app,” for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice.

WASHINGTON, DC Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at 7:30PM CST, Rep. Robin L. Kelly (IL-02), will host a Telephone Town Hall to discuss the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Build Back Better Act. Constituents will have the opportunity to ask questions and get more information about the legislation.

Congresswoman Robin Kelly announced today that Prairie State College and Kankakee Community College have been awarded multi-year federal grants to provide support services aimed at increasing the graduation rates of first-generation and low-income students.

Prairie State College will receive $220,000, while Kankakee Community College was awarded $281,510, with both grants to be distributed over a five-year period.

Congresswoman Robin Kelly announced the winners of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition for high school students during a reception at the Christopher Art Gallery at Prairie State College.

"We had a record 63 students representing 11 schools submit their remarkable artwork to the contest," Congresswoman Kelly said. "Our judges had a difficult job deciding between all of these amazing works of art. I want to express my gratitude to each artist for taking part in the contest, as well as to their teachers and parents, who encourage and develop their talent."

Rantoul, Ill. – Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02) presented $540,000 in federal funding to the Rantoul Youth Center. This funding will help the Center make critical upgrades to its kitchen preparation and serving area, relocate the freezers and refrigerators, finish the main dining room, and update the offices and the gym. The Rantoul Youth Center operates a Summer Food Program to provide meals to children   during the school break.

Bus Tour

Calumet City, Ill. – Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02) presented Hoover-Schrum Memorial School District with $1,725,000 in federal funding to purchase five new electric school buses. Rep. Kelly toured a model of the bus from Illinois manufacturer Lion Electric, along with Calumet City Mayor Thaddeus Jones, Hoover-Schrum Memorial Superintendent Dr. Dwayne Evans, US EPA Region Chief of Staff Alfred Saucedo, and Lion Electric Director of Government Relations Brian Robb.
