Matteson, IL – Congresswoman Robin Kelly, a member of the bipartisan House Task Force on Community-Police Relations, released this statement marking National Police Week:
"Each year, we pause to remember the brave men and women – including my uncles, cousins and nephews – who put on the uniform every day.
As we mark National Police Week, I'm asking my colleagues to truly commit to protecting our law enforcement officers. But, that's not possible until we address our lax and non-existent gun laws that have allowed criminals to target and outgun law enforcement.
For years, policymakers have known that the NRA's "guns everywhere — background checks nowhere" policy means more dead Americans and a country that's less safe.
Yet, instead of using common sense, we stand by and allow 30,000 Americans to die every year.
Tragically, the NRA's dangerous policies have found a new supporter: ISIS.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Robin Kelly, chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust, released this statement following the House vote to strip 24 million Americans of their health insurance:
"I'm extremely disappointed that my colleagues worked so hard to strip 24 million Americans – including 1.15 million Illinoisans – of the everyday peace of mind that comes from having health insurance. Washington, DC - Congresswoman Robin Kelly, chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust, released this statement following the announcement of a vote on Zombie TrumpCare:
"It shows a callous lack of courage for Republicans to make stealing from MediCare, passing an 'age tax' and voting to strip millions of Americans of health insurance, the last thing they do before skipping town for recess.
This is a disastrous follow-up to the GOP's first health proposal. Somehow this bill managed to be worse than the original TrumpCare bill that was scrapped.
