It was books galore in the H-F library on Friday, April 5. U.S. Congresswoman Robin Kelly visited H-F to donate 100 books to the school library as a part of the Library of Congress' Surplus Books Program.

Kelly met with staff, librarians and students of Candi Helsel-Wilks and J.R. Rose's Aesthetics & Creative Process Across the Arts class to discuss her role in Congress and also for an open discussion.

Congresswoman Robin Kelly announced the winners of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition for high school students during a reception at the Christopher Art Gallery at Prairie State College.

"We had a record 63 students representing 11 schools submit their remarkable artwork to the contest," Congresswoman Kelly said. "Our judges had a difficult job deciding between all of these amazing works of art. I want to express my gratitude to each artist for taking part in the contest, as well as to their teachers and parents, who encourage and develop their talent."

The chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus' health task force on Tuesday floated a bill calling for the country's top medical officer to tackle the issue of gun violence.

"Gun violence kills 100 Americans each day in America," Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill.) said at a news conference on Capitol Hill.

Kelly said Congress needs data in order to confront the epidemic, a need she cited as the impetus for her bill, H.R. 1114, that would require the surgeon general to submit to Congress an annual report on the effects of gun violence on public health.

Washington, DC – Yesterday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced Congresswoman Robin Kelly's Orange Book Transparency Act (H.R. 1503) to the full House of Representatives for consideration and action.

Introduced in March, the Orange Book Transparency Act would increase access to lower cost generic drugs and bolster competition in the marketplace to drive down prescription drug costs for American families.

Federal grants totaling $12.1 million will allow Aunt Martha's Health and Wellness Center to continue operations of health care clinics, according to U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly, D-Matteson, and Aunt Martha's.

Her office also announced that Harvey-based Family Christian Health Center has been awarded $2.2 million in federal funding.
