Reps. Kelly & Cleaver Statement on DOJ-SEC Investigation into Apple’s Planned Obsolescence

Congresswoman Robin Kelly, ranking member of Congress' investigative and oversight IT subcommittee, and Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II released this statement concerning the Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission's announcement of an investigation into Apple's slowing-down of iPhones:

"Earlier this month, we led a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook expressing concerns related to the intentional performance modification of older iPhones. Since then, Apple has offered to address our concerns and provide insight into the reason behind pursuing this modification.

Leading companies and innovators should not only ‘think different,' they should ‘act differently' when it comes to customer transparency and inclusion.

While we don't know what will come of the DOJ and SEC probes, we do know that all of us can work together to reach constructive solutions that promote innovation and accountability in the tech sector."
