Rep. Robin Kelly Issues Statement on House Passage of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02) today released the following statement regarding House passage of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act:
"The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act puts forth real solutions, driven by what we have heard from constituents regarding changes needed in our policing and justice system. We cannot stand by and watch as more people die from police violence. Real reform is needed, and this bill proposes changes that will hold police accountable. H.R. 1280 will end no-knock warrants like the one that led to the death of Breonna Taylor and ban deadly chokeholds like the one that killed George Floyd. If enacted, this bill will make a difference in our communities by addressing racial profiling and improving police training and policies.
"Breonna and George's deaths were truly heartbreaking, outrageous and entirely preventable experiences for their families and for our nation. We can and must do better, and we should honor their memory with action."
