Congresswoman Robin Kelly Announces State Senator Kwame Raoul as Her State of the Union Guest
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Robin Kelly released this statement about her guest for this year's State of the Union address:
"I am pleased that my friend, State Senator Kwame Raoul, will be joining me as my guest for this year's State of the Union. Senator Raoul has been a respected leader in the Illinois General Assembly since taking over for President Barack Obama upon his election to the U.S. Senate.
As a first generation Haitian-American, his presence and voice at the State of the Union is greatly needed, especially in light of the President's recent racist and derogatory comments about Haiti and other nations. Senator Raoul is living proof of the massive and positive impact that immigrants and their families have made in our communities and on our nation.
As First Lady Michelle Obama said, ‘when they go low; we go high.' By his actions and commitment to service, Senator Raoul is a perfect example of the ‘high road' and shows a clear contrast between his dedication to public service and this President's misguided, ill-informed and biased policies."
Notes:
For President Trump's first address to a Joint Session of Congress, Congresswoman Kelly welcomed guests: Donna Miller, vice chair of Planned Parenthood Illinois, and Matt McGill, host of WVON's Matt McGill Show. Regarding her guests for that Joint Session address, she said, "my guests are leaders in the opposition to the Republicans' War on Women and the President's War on the First Amendment. Our nation is at a critical crossroads. I could not think of two more appropriate guests for this vital moment in our history."
Congresswoman Kelly and Senator Raoul are available for media interviews before and after the speech.
