Congresswoman Kelly Seeks to Overturn Trump Administration and Extend Census through Congressional Powers
Matteson, IL – Today, Congresswoman Robin Kelly announced her co-sponsorship of the Fair and Accurate Census Act (H.R. 7034), legislation to mandate the 2020 Census outreach period continue until October 31st, 2020, as originally planned.
"Billions in federal investments for our communities are determined by the Census. For each person and every family that goes uncounted, our communities, neighborhoods and schools lose out. We need every day possible to ensure an accurate count, as required by the Constitution," said Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Member of the House Oversight Committee. "Once again, the Trump Administration is making something that should be apolitical – counting our nation's population – into a political weapon. Congressional leaders, Republican and Democratic, have an obligation to stand up and stop this blatant abuse of Presidential power."
In early August, the Trump Administration announced that 2020 Census outreach would end on September 30th, 2020, one month earlier than originally planned. Congress will consider this legislation in coming weeks to mandate the extended outreach period.
Individuals and families who have yet to complete the Census can do so immediately, and in less than ten minutes, at 2020Census.gov.
