Flossmoor Resident Named Presidential Leadership Scholar

January 7, 2015

Congresswoman Robin Kelly announced today that Flossmoor resident Jay Readey has been chosen as a Presidential Leadership Scholar.

Readey, executive director of the Chicago Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, was one of only 60 people selected from a field of 900 candidates nationwide to participate in the program.

"Jay's dedication to civil rights makes him the perfect candidate for the Presidential Leadership Scholars Program," said Rep. Kelly, who nominated Readey for the program. "I have no doubt that this opportunity will allow Jay to further develop his leadership talents and go on to become an exceptional leader."

In addition to providing legal services in the areas of fair housing, employment discrimination, and educational equity, Readey is publisher of RaceandPoverty.org and co-chair of the Southland Human Services Leadership Council. Readey is a graduate of Yale University, Yale Law School and the Yale School of Management.

"Through the Presidential Leadership Scholars Program, I hope to raise interest of my current project, Innovation Houses and Opportunity Hubs, which strives to reduce violence and create stability within communities," Readey said.

Readey will attend a series of six weekend sessions across the country and hear lectures by former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, as well as professors from America's most prestigious universities.
