Rep. Kelly's Statement on Pittsburgh tragedy
Congresswoman Robin Kelly, vice chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, released this statement concerning the shooting at The Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA:
“My heart is with the families and congregation of Tree of Life Synagogue and the Pittsburgh community.
Once again, our nation saw the impacts of someone with hate in their heart who had access to a gun. With a gun, he turned that hate into violence and now, people are dead and families are forever torn apart.
It’s past time to make this type of tragedy history by passing commonsense gun safety reforms that nearly all Americans support.
More and more, these mass shootings are also resulting in the death and injuries of law enforcement officers and first responders. Today, several officers were shot adding to multiple and recent tragedies in the Pittsburgh area where police have been outgunned by criminals. The time to act is now.
