Hiring Event Hosted by Congresswoman Kelly Draws 500 Job Seekers
Five hundred job seekers attended a Hiring Event hosted by Congresswoman Robin Kelly on Friday at South Suburban College in South Holland.
Seventy employers with active job openings were on hand to accept resumes and interview job seekers. This was the third annual job fair organized by Rep. Kelly. Two job seekers who attended the Congresswoman’s first job fair in 2013 participated this year as employee representatives from Kemper Home Services.
“It was gratifying and inspiring to learn that Sommatra Jackson and Ramona Young found jobs with Kemper at our first Hiring Event and returned this year to do the hiring,” Rep. Kelly said. “They are the reason why I host this event every year. I know there are so many hard-working, highly qualified people in my district who just need to be connected to businesses looking for quality employees. Many employers told me today that they have hired job seekers from my past job fairs.”
Companies and agencies participating this year included ComEd, Metra, Comcast, Illinois Tollway, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, James McHugh Construction, U.S. Postal Service, Illinois State Police, and the Chicago Transit Authority.
“A number of job seekers commented to me that they were very pleased with the wide variety of trades, services and professions represented at the event. We had employers from construction, government, healthcare and social services, retail, technology, as well as transportation and logistics,” Rep. Kelly said.
