Congresswoman Kelly Selected to Serve on Powerful House Committee on Energy and Commerce
Washington, DC –Congresswoman Robin Kelly has been selected by the Steering and Policy Committee to serve on the powerful House Committee on Energy and Commerce. This committee has broad policy jurisdiction including healthcare, technology, privacy, energy policy and consumer protection.
“I’m deeply humbled by my colleagues’ faith in me to serve on this important committee,” said Congresswoman Robin Kelly. “As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I will be better able to serve and advance the needs of Illinois families, and I look forward to addressing important issues related to healthcare, the environment, gun safety, and technology on day one.”
“I’m pleased to welcome Rep. Kelly to the Energy and Commerce Committee where she will play a crucial role in ensuring all Americans have access to affordable and quality health care, safe drinking water, high-speed internet and a cleaner environment,” said Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ). “As a longtime champion of improving the health and wellness of vulnerable communities, Rep. Kelly will be a powerful voice in addressing disparities in our health care system. I congratulate her on this well-deserved appointment and look forward to working with her.”
In recent years, many of Congresswoman Kelly’s bills have been referred to the Energy and Commerce Committee. She has become a leading voice on healthcare, as chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust and a staunch advocate of technology and privacy matters, as the Ranking Member of the IT subcommittee on Oversight.
In the coming days, the House Democratic Caucus will vote to approve the selections made by the Steering and Policy Committee.
