Congresswoman Kelly Marks National Police Week by Calling for Gun Reform to Protect Officer’s Lives, following 56% Jump in Officers being Shot and Killed
Matteson, IL – Congresswoman Robin Kelly, a member of the bipartisan House Task Force on Community-Police Relations, released this statement marking National Police Week:
“Each year, we pause to remember the brave men and women – including my uncles, cousins and nephews – who put on the uniform every day.
As we mark National Police Week, I’m asking my colleagues to truly commit to protecting our law enforcement officers. But, that’s not possible until we address our lax and non-existent gun laws that have allowed criminals to target and outgun law enforcement.
Last year, we saw a massive 56 percent jump in officers being shot and killed. As members of Congress, we have an obligation to pass common sense laws that protect those who protect and serve our communities.”
