Congresswoman Kelly Calls for Congressional Investigation into Russia’s Role in 2016 Election
Today, Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Ranking Member of the Oversight Committee’s subcommittee on Information Technology (IT) Security, sent a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan and Oversight Committee chairman, Congressman Jason Chaffetz calling for a full and thorough investigation of Russia’s efforts to sway the 2016 Presidential election.
“Voting is the bedrock of our democracy. As members of Congress, we have a responsibility to investigate and deliver real answers for the American people,” said Congresswoman Kelly. “The intelligence community has done their job and made it clear, we need to get to the bottom of this.”
Specifically, her letter requests a full committee investigative hearing on “Russia’s actions in the 2016 Presidential race and its efforts to undermine our election.”
The letter continues: “Now that CIA sources have indicated that there was indeed Russian interference in the 2016 Presidential contest, we must act swiftly to defend our democratic elections and hold the Putin Regime accountable for their actions.”
“Failure to investigate these serious allegations is nothing short of a violation of the public trust,” added Congresswoman Kelly.
Congresswoman Kelly also serves on the Oversight Committee's National Security subcommittee and is a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
