Congresswoman Kelly Announces $3.75 Million in Federal Community-Oriented Policing Grants
Matteson, IL – Today, Congresswoman Robin Kelly announced that three communities in the 2nd Congressional district will receive $3.75 million in federal community-orientated policing (COPS) hiring grants. These resources will support thirty officers on our communities.
“I am pleased to announce this influx of federal public safety dollars into our communities,” said Congresswoman Robin Kelly. “For years, we’ve known that community-orientated and community-focused policing strategies are remarkably effective at reducing crime and rebuilding trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve, especially communities of color. These important federal funds will help rebuild trust and make our communities safer.”
The federal funding will support twenty-five officers ($3.125 million) in Chicago, three officers ($375,000) in Lansing and two officers ($250,000) in Country Club Hills. Only two other communities in Illinois will also receive COPS hiring grants through this competitive granting process.
Congresswoman Robin Kelly serves on the bipartisan Policing Strategies Working Group.
